Artist's Statement
.
I have always been interested in the world of darkness with its rich and infinite associations to the night sky, the mind's eye, and the depth of the sea. My work visually explores the mystery of existence. I want to express my fascination with the phenomenal universe and my art is an attempt to penetrate to the heart of it. My paintings explore the cycles of life as expressed through the process of growth, decay and rebirth in nature and the human body. My work identifies with the observational and meditative aspects of painting. The layered patterns are subtle in contrast to the intricate network of hieroglyphic like markings that populate and energize the surface. These marks evoke a broad range of references to other cultures; Asian and Native American and to the internal biology of life forms.
